Born in regional SA, vocalist and keyboardist Alicia Joy – now Adelaide-based – was brought up on jams around her grandparents’ kitchen table. A proud millennial with eclectic taste, Alicia leans into nostalgia covering pop songs from the 80s to present day – think: Kate Bush covers Britney Spears or maybe Sia doing a version of Toni Braxton. We’ll let you ponder that.

When it comes to songwriting, Alicia is highly influenced by her diverse music taste, which ranges from Johnny Cash and Kate Bush to Evanescence and Charlie Puth.

On any one day, you could find her swapping between Prince, Billy Joel, Run–D.M.C, Taking Back Sunday, Aurora, RAYE and everything in between… and it probably shows. Alicia Joy’s original music makes light of heartache with songs that you can groove to. And yes, she would really like to be able to rap.

When Alicia left school she spent several years studying music, then did some instrumental music teaching, played in a band and worked on her original music. Finally, she changed course completely. Although she doesn’t regret her journalism degree, or developing her skills in writing, editing, social media management and communications more broadly, leaving music behind just really wasn’t an option.

So, after finally realising the missing piece of her happiness pie was and is music, Alicia is back in the game, kicking around performing covers, with new original songs so close to dropping.

Be on the lookout for one woman with a keyboard, who loves a minor key. And be prepared to feel.

But also don’t be surprised if you catch Alicia acting in a show, not behind her keyboard at all… because on the journey back to a creative life and thanks to a very, very short TV experience, Alicia discovered just how much she loved being behind a camera.

And finally, bringing it in more personally, Alicia owes a big shoutout to her dear friend and mentor, Kelly Brouhaha. And equal parts of shout out and love to Ashton Rudd (of Mirrorcave and Kitchen Witch) and Jace Hooper, for their work recording and producing her 2023 originals. Stay tuned.

And one last thank you to friend, cousin-in-law and stylist, the lovely and talented Kata Hooper. For not only your style advice but for the inspiration, support and just believing in me. Much love.
